Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!
Happy Tuesday! This tuesday’s theme is: Songs I wish were books!
This was kind of a difficult topic! I realized that a lot of the music I listen to is sad and would not really make a good book, haha. But I came up with these ten songs that I think could be interesting if adapted!
Songs I wish were books:
-
I See You – Mika
- I don’t speak, you don’t know me at all
For fear of what you might do
I say nothing but stare at you
And I’m dreaming
I’m trippin’ over youTruth be told
My problems solved
You mean the world to be but you’ll never know
You could be cruel to me
While we’re risking the way that I see you
That I see youCould it be you fell for me?
And any possible similarity
If its all, how would I know?
You never knew me at all but I see you
But I see you
- I don’t speak, you don’t know me at all
-
Reno – Wild Child
-
Late nights on the road
Didn’t hear your call
Damn I hope you’d catch me when I fallI know your mind goes running wild
But I’m always at your door
You treat like a child cos I’ve run beforeBut when they dim those city lights
Could search the whole world round
Always know my heart is in your hometown
-
-
Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
- I’ll follow you into the park,
Through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I’ve never loved one like youMoats and boats, and waterfalls,
Alleyways, and payphone calls
I been everywhere with you (that’s true)Laugh until we think we’ll die,
Barefoot on a summer night
Never could be sweeter than with youAnd in the streets you run afree,
Like it’s only you and me,
Geez, you’re something to see.Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
- I’ll follow you into the park,
-
Little Wanderer by Death Cab For Cutie
-
You sent a photo out your window of Tokyo
Told me you were doing fine
You said the cherry blossoms were blooming
And that I was on your mind
But I couldn’t make you out through the glitches
It’s how it always seems to go
So we say our goodbyes over messenger
As the network overloads
When the network overloadsYou’re my wanderer, little wanderer
Off across the sea
You’re my wanderer, little wanderer
Won’t you wander back to me
Back to meAlways fall asleep when you’re waking
I count the hours on my hands
Doing the math to the time zone you’re at
Is an unseen part of the plan
But if you’ll be my bluebird returning
Then I’ll be your evergreen
Standing tall on your horizon
Guiding you home to me
Guiding you home to me

That Power- Childish Gambino
- This is on a bus back from camp. I’m thirteen and so are you. Before I left for camp I imagined it would be me and three or four other dudes I hadn’t met yet, running around all summer, getting into trouble. It turned out it would be me and just one girl. That’s you. And we’re still at camp as long as we’re on the bus and not at the pickup point where our parents would be waiting for us. We’re still wearing our orange camp t-shirts. We still smell like pineneedles. I like you and you like me and I more-than-like you, but I don’t know if you do or don’t more-than-like me. You’ve never said, so I haven’t been saying anything all summer, content to enjoy the small miracle of a girl choosing to talk to me and choosing to do so again the next day and so on. A girl who’s smart and funny and who, if I say something dumb for a laugh, is willing to say something two or three times as dumb to make me laugh, but who also gets weird and wise sometimes in a way I could never be. A girl who reads books that no one’s assigned to her, whose curly brown hair has a line running through it from where she put a tie to hold it up while it was still wet

Tiny Toy Piano- Jared Mees & the Grown Children
- I was head over heart over heels
for you as you knocked with your helmet and bike wheel.
My grandma offered you cookies as she cleaned up our card game.
You asked her how he was, and she said “oh about the same.”
You said “I’m so sorry, it must be so awful hard.”
She nodded as she let, the dog into the yard.
She said “yes but what I do in times like this
is read what he wrote me after our very first kiss…
he said: ‘Our love is like a deep sea submarine.
We’re getting down to the bottom of things
because the surface was just too boring…
though we may not ever be returning.
It’s like a hard tail motorbike just burning up the road,
its fast and wild and scary but it’s pretty safe if truth be told'”
For 50 years I fell further every foot.
For 50 years falling never felt so good.
- I was head over heart over heels
-
Summertime by the Mowgli’s
- Oh, I can’t get you off of my mind
And I think that it’s alright
Cause looking back
I’m falling in love with you every single night
You know that feeling, right
Where everything is fine, just fine
I keep falling in love with you in the summertime
- Oh, I can’t get you off of my mind
-
Let’s Dance to Joy Division- The Wombats
-
Let’s dance to joy division
And celebrate the irony
Everything is going wrong
But we’re so happyLet’s dance to joy division
And raise our glass to the ceiling
‘Cos this could all go so wrong
But we’re just so happy
Yeah, we’re so happySo, if you’re ever feeling down
Grab your purse and take a taxi
To the darkest side of town
That’s where we’ll beAnd we will wait for you
And lead you through the dance floor
Up to the DJ booth
You know what to ask for

Brick by Boring Bring by Paramore
-
Oh, she lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of a world that she’s left behind
It’s all about the exposure the lens
I told her the angles were all wrong
Now she’s ripping wings off of butterfliesKeep your feet on the ground
When your head’s in the cloudsWell, go get your shovel
And we’ll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle
Go get your shovel
And we’ll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castlePa ra pa pa ra pa pa raSo one day, he found her crying
Coiled up on the dirty ground
Her prince finally came to save her
And the rest you can figure out
But it was a trick and the clock struck twelve
Well, make sure to build your home brick by boring brick
Or the wolves gonna blow it down

First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes
-
Your’s is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don’t know where I am
Don’t know where I’ve been
But I know where I want to goAnd so I thought I’d let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realized that I need you
And I wondered if I could come homeRemember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange
You said everything changed
You felt as if you’d just woke up

I have never head of any of those songs, WHERE HAVE I BEEN LIVING, but I can say from those lyrics that they would make amazing books.

I am so excited to see Death Cab for Cutie and Paramore on this list. I love the songs you chose for both bands and the songs would make excellent books.
Gabi @ Let's Gab About Books says
me too! I love both bands, and they were some of the first to pop into my head for being good books!

Thank you! I agree! I think Home would make a really great lighthearted romance 🙂

I must admit, I haven’t heard of the large majority of these songs (I guess that’s what makes this prompt so fab though; I love being able to explore people’s music tastes and associate the blogs I read with their respective song choices :D) but MIKA = a big fat yes from me 😀
His songs are all so powerful, and I can see each and every one of them being used as the basis of a novel 🙂
Here’s my TTT – I would love it if you had a spare moment, and checked it out (no obligations, of course!!)

The Death Cab for Cutie song is definitely one i would love to see turned into a book. Great job with this TTT, I saw the topic and deemed it as impossible, but you did such a good job with it!
Gabi @ Let's Gab About Books says
Right?! It would be great!
& thank you Aentee! I was definitely a little overwhelmed, it was so hard! but thanks for making me feel like I did alright!! 🙂

I considered that Bright Eyes song for my list too! I love Home. I’d love to read that as a book. I’ve seen quite a few people include Brick by Boring Brick on their list! That’s a popular one and I’d be interested to see how it translated into a book.
Here’s my TTT
Gabi @ Let's Gab About Books says
I think Brick by Boring Brick is just so magical and whimsical, so I am not surprised others loved it for a book idea too! 🙂 The Bright Eyes song is one of my favorites, ever, I’m glad you thought about it too!
